Burna Boy Set to Headline Rolling Loud India

Three years after Rema’s historic India tour helped demonstrate Afrobeats’ potential in the country, Burna Boy is set to headline Day 1 of Rolling Loud India 2026. His booking marks another significant moment for Nigerian music in a market increasingly attracting global artists.

Rema’s success showed that Afrobeats could connect with Indian audiences beyond the genre’s established markets in Africa, Europe and North America. His breakthrough helped create a stronger case for Nigerian artists looking to expand into India, and Burna Boy’s upcoming performance could push that momentum further.

However, Burna’s place at Rolling Loud also reflects his connection to hip-hop. Although rooted in Afrobeats, his sound draws from reggae, dancehall and hip-hop, allowing him to move comfortably across genres. His international collaborations and global appeal make him a fitting addition to a festival built around hip-hop culture.

Burna Boy also has a personal connection to India through the late rapper Sidhu Moose Wala. The pair were connected through Mera Na, a posthumous release featuring Burna Boy and British producer Steel Banglez. Burna has also spoken about drawing inspiration from Moose Wala’s music during periods of creative exhaustion. He reportedly travelled to India to pay his respects to the late rapper’s family, further highlighting the bond that extended beyond their musical collaboration.

Rolling Loud India 2026 will also mark the Indian performance debuts of American rapper Big Sean, British rapper Skepta and producer Metro Boomin, adding further international weight to the festival.

For Afrobeats, Burna Boy’s headline slot represents more than another international booking. It offers an opportunity to build on the audience Rema helped establish while introducing more Indian listeners to the wider Nigerian music scene.
