Tobi Bakre Returns to the Big Screen in Gripping 1980s Thriller, ‘Farmer’s Bride’

Official distributors and producers FilmOne Entertainment, have released a teaser for the upcoming Nigerian movie, Farmer’s Bride. The short clip released on August 21, 2024, gives a snippet of the lead actors Femi Branch and Gbubemi Ejeye.

Written by Jack’enneth Opukeme, and set in 1980’s Ibadan, the story revolves around the character Odun, portrayed by Branch, a wealthy and lonely farmer with no surviving family except for his late brother’s widow Morenike, and her son Femi (Tobi Bakare). He decides to marry a young bride, Funmi (Ejeye), from the village.
Funmi resents her husband in this union arranged by her mother Tundun. As she fails to help soothe Odun’s ageing nerves and bring him joy in his old age, sinks into grief and despair.
In a post on social media, Opukeme who was the writer for Adire, shared the why behind his latest story. “I’ve always been drawn to stories powerful enough to live forever. It was what guided me in creating the story called “Adire” a literal modern classic that will continue to find new audiences forever. That same timeless quality drew me to the idea that became Farmer’s Bride”.
Behind-the-scene images also showed Bakre, who finds himself in a dicey situation with the ladies in his life. This movie, marks his return to the cinematic world after a year silence since the award-winning African Magic series Slum Kingin 2023. here is a lot of anticipation to see what his character delivers in this project.

Directed by Adebayo Tijani and Opukeme, the feature-length movie also stars Mercy Aigbe, Efe Irele and Wumi Toriola. Executively produced by Filmone Group CEO, Kene Okwuosa, Ladun Awobokun and Craig Shurn.
Farmer’s Bride will debut across cinemas nationwide on September 27, 2024.
