TikTok Sensation Peller is Charting a New Live Streaming Course in Nigeria

Despite reservations about his relevance, Peller’s influence is becoming undeniable as he continues to dominate on TikTok.

stands out quite like Peller at the moment. Born Habeeb Hamzat in May 2005, the 19-year-old has swiftly become Nigeria’s foremost online streamer. His journey to the top was inspired by globally renowned streamers like Kai Cenat, Fanum, and IShowSpeed, all of whom dominate the TikTok space with their unique styles.

With his primary base also on the same platform, Peller’s online persona reflects some qualities of a new-school media sensation: unapologetic, unrefined, authentic and humorous. While creators like DJ Chicken and Oba Solomoni share similar traits, Peller’s comic flair is only a small part of his broader strategy to captivate viewers. In fact, the Lagos-born streamer has a notice on his bio that distances himself from a comedian tag.

Peller is neither boxed in as a comedian nor fully marketed as a traditional content creator. Instead, he’s charting a new course as a streamer pushing boundaries in the digital space.

The 19-year-old’s rise to prominence began with a breakthrough live-streaming session alongside Nigerian-Canadian rapper Dax in April. Since then, he has set and broken records for the most-viewed streams in Africa. His stream with content creator girlfriend Jarrvis, featuring Tiwa Savage, now holds the top spot with around 76,000 views. This surpassed his previous stream with Nigerian rapper Olamide, which attracted 60,000 views during the promotion of Olamide’s eleventh studio album, Ikigai.

Despite reservations about his relevance, Peller’s influence is becoming undeniable. His appearance on the YouTube series, Curiosity Made Me Ask, sparked mixed reactions online but ultimately became one of the highest-viewed episodes, surpassing sessions that featured global figures like Victor Boniface, Frank Edoho, Odumodublvck, 9ice, and Seun Kuti.

Earlier in October, Peller won the Next Gen Influencer of the Year and also TikTok Influencer of the Year at the Pulse Influencer Awards. The 19-year-old streamer is poised for an even bigger milestone on October 30,  when he hosts Afrobeats superstar Davido.
