30 Halloween Costumes Inspired by Nigerian Pop Culture

Stop pulling costume ideas from abroad. Nigeria’s pop culture is packed with looks to try!

Every Halloween, Nigerians pull out all the stops for costume parties, but we keep seeing the same foreign faces: Velma from Scooby Doo, Halle Berry as Catwoman, The Mask, Spiderman, and of course, Joker. Sure, these characters are iconic, but it’s high time we tapped into our own pop culture goldmine and let Nigerian legends and local icons take the spotlight. Imagine stepping into the party dressed as Sola Sobowale’s fierce King of Boys character or channelling Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album cover swag. These looks are fresh, easy to pull together, and unapologetically Nigerian.

While you make plans for next Halloween, we’ve got a costume list that’s both fun and specifically Nigerian. Check out these ideas and make a statement at your next costume party!
