MTV EMAs 2023

The 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards has added a new category to honor African music. The category — “Best Afrobeats” — has Asake, Aya Nakamura, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido and Rema as its contenders for this year’s edition.

The nominees for this year also include 26 first timers including Asake who snagged two nominations. Burna Boy joined Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, SZA and others who were nominated for “Best Live Artist,” becoming the first Nigerian in history to earn a nomination in that category. Rema leads, however, with three nominations in “Best Afrobeats,” “Best Collaboration,” and “Best Song” respectively.

The 2023 MTV EMA will take place in Paris for the first time since 1995. This year’s ceremony will be held at Paris-Nord Villepinte. It will broadcast live on MTV in more than 150 countries and on Pluto TV globally on November 5th, and it will be available on demand on Paramount+.

Fans can start voting for their favorite categories starting today here; voting will be open through 11:59 p.m. CET on October 31.
