Amid the elation led by the release of her sophomore EP, Matter of Time, R&B singer-songwriter Dami Oniru will be at The FreeMe Space, Lagos, to perform her debut headline show on Friday, April 7th, 2023. The show, tagged “Matter of Time: The Experience with Dami Oniru”, will be hosted by Amiola Aguda and Valerie Ike “with support from Preyé, Tomilola, Kold AF and some special guests.”
Atlanta-born, Oniru is increasingly growing to become a staple in the Nigerian R&B scene. Right from her early days with songs like “Fallin’” and “Iyawo” which assisted in cementing the singer as one of the upcoming, but active R&B, Afro-soul voices in the Nigerian music industry, Dami Oniru has been consistent.
Her debut project, Bri’s Lounge, a seven-track EP built around emotive themes that sees Dami Oniru launching into a full-on spiel of love and vulnerability, moved her away from the peripherals of the music industry, nudging her forward and giving her a more expansive fanbase. She performed “Runnin”, a song off the project, on one of the episodes of the Grammy’s digital series, Global Spin. The EP, which was greatly influenced by her Nigerian and American roots, foreshadowed Dami Oniru’s resolve to assert her full artistic freedom.
Her sophomore project, “Matter of Time”, contributes to strengthening not just her presence in the music industry, but her unique sound which departs from the traditional Afrobeats leanings of this contemporary era. Through the trajectory of her career, Dami Oniru has collaborated with her peers who are breaking into the mainstream and other bigger stars. She’s worked with WurID, Jinmi Abduls, Odunsi (The Engine) and her regular collaborator, Remy Baggins.
Come Friday at The FreeMe Space, Dami Oniru will take the stage and she is prepared to thrill an expectant audience with her vocal talents and beautiful songs.
