The Headies, Nigeria’s premier music awards, has announced a double dose of celebration for 2025. The 17th edition, initially planned for 2024, will now take place on April 5, 2025, at the Eko Convention Centre, Lagos, Nigeria. This shift, attributed to unforeseen logistical challenges, necessitates a condensed timeline for the following edition. Consequently, the 18th Headies will be held in December 2025, also in Lagos.

This unprecedented move will allow the awards to recognize a broader spectrum of Nigerian musical talent. The 17th edition’s eligibility period spans from April 1, 2023, to July 31, 2024, ensuring that artists whose work was released during this time are duly considered. The 18th edition will then cover music released from August 1, 2024, to a date in 2025 yet to be finalized, likely encompassing a full year’s worth of releases.

Organizers, led by Executive Producer Ayo Animashun, have emphasized their commitment to maintaining the high standards of the Headies. The return to Lagos after two editions held in the United States is expected to be a major highlight, bringing the awards back to its core audience. Further details regarding nominations list, categories, and performers for both editions are expected to be released in the coming months.
