South African fashion brand MaXhosa Africa is poised for a significant step forward with the upcoming opening of its first store in New York City.

Founded in 2011 by Laduma Ngxokolo, MaXhosa Africa has garnered international acclaim for its aesthetic knitwear designs that pay homage to Xhosa culture and heritage.

 

Ngxokolo shared the news on his social platforms stating, “I think MAXHOSA deserves to be in New York because we have taken extra care in everything that we do, which is what I believe the true definition of luxury should be. New York is on top of the world, and we are in New York as a stepping stone for us to be top of the world”.

 

The designer likens the journey to securing this prime location and preparing for the launch to the tenacity demonstrated in the film The Pursuit of Happiness. He acknowledges the challenges faced in navigating complex logistics and pinpointing the ideal moment for the brand’s New York debut.

 

The highly anticipated store, located at 325 Canal Street, is scheduled to open its doors on June 15th.


The brand’s creations function as bold expression of Xhosa culture, language, and aesthetics, all thoughtfully reimagined for a contemporary audience, making them relevant to global fashion markets.
