The Nigerian hip-hop scene has been relentless since the start of this year, and rapper and singer Fimi is at the forefront. On this week’s episode of The Pick, she joins the charts with a new anthem, “DUM.” Following several snippets across social media, the rising artist has officially released the single as the latest addition to her catalogue.

It appears Flow Daddy is her bag this year; sitting on a steady string of defining statements like “Superstarr,” “Escapism,” and “Owo,” the rising rap powerhouse is back with yet another single. And the latest single, “DUM”, is a raw melodic rap jam poised to shake up the scene.

Produced and engineered by Abayomi Aluko, “DUM” is built on an Afro-fusion rhythmic palette and a hip-hop percussion framework, laced with pervasive basslines. The production leaves room for Fimi’s unfiltered flow, witty lyricism and razor-sharp wordplay. Running throughout the lyrics are Fimi’s swagger, luxury-driven narratives, and pure self-assurance. She effortlessly slides across to toast to her financial success, midnight escapades, and an unstoppable lifestyle where she and the bag are entirely inseparable.

Fuck in a Bentley, put the liquor all up in my belly / Fit to channel a baddie like Telly / I be baller, eyan Balotelli… Let me tell you who the best is,” she sets the tone instantly with a barrage of unfiltered, boastful opening lines.

The song is a toast to enjoyment and pleasure, blending energetic boasts with references to luxury cars, designer wear, and celebratory moments fueled by music and drinks. With “DUM,” Fimi yet again firmly stakes her claim as one of the country’s most promising and authentic artists.
