Tobi Amusan: WR holder makes school history

Tobi Amusan has once again solidified her legacy by joining the prestigiousClass of 2023 Hall of Fame for C-USA (Conference USA). 

After an exceptional collegiate career at the University of Texas El Paso (UTEP), Amusan’s extraordinary achievements have earned her this well-deserved honor.

During her time at UTEP from 2016 to 2017, Amusan established herself as a standout athlete, setting multiple school records and capturing the NCAA title in the 100m Hurdles in 2017. Her remarkable performances earned her the recognition of being named the C-USA Female Track Athlete of the Year for both 2016 and 2017.

While these accolades were impressive, it was her historic performance at the 2022 World Championships in Oregon that truly solidified her place in athletics history. In the semifinals, Amusan shattered the world record with a lightning-fast time of 12.12s, surpassing Keni Harrison’s previous record of 12.20s set in 2016. In the final, she clocked a wind-aided 12.06s, becoming Nigeria’s first outdoor World Champion and Record holder in athletics. Her final time stands as the fastest ever recorded under any conditions.

Amusan‘s success extended beyond the world championships. In the 2022 season, she claimed double titles as the Commonwealth and Diamond League champion, defending her titles in record-breaking fashion. Her remarkable achievements have solidified her status as one of the most exceptional athletes in the world.

Adding to her accomplishments, Amusan recently announced her completion of a Master of Arts degree in Leadership Studies and Sports Management from UTEP. This testament to her dedication and pursuit of excellence showcases her commitment to personal and professional growth.

As per C-USA rules, athletes must be five years removed from their last collegiate race to be eligible for induction into the hall of fame. This year marked the first opportunity for Amusan to receive this prestigious recognition, a testament to the enduring impact she has had on the world of athletics.
