The exhilarating Naija Super 8 football-tainment event rolled on with captivating matches on Tuesday, 11th July 2023. Held at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, Group A teams battled fiercely for victory and a spot in the semi-finals.

 

In the first game of the day, Sporting Lagos staged a thrilling comeback, overcoming Remo Stars with a 2-1 triumph. Remo Stars took an early lead through Franck Mawuena’s 18th-minute goal, assisted by Isaac James. However, Sporting Lagos showed their fighting spirit, equalizing in the 27th minute with a fantastic strike from Saturday Okon. The drama intensified as Chiemeka Nwokeji sealed the victory for Sporting Lagos in the dying moments of the match, converting a crucial penalty saved by Demola Bankole.

 

In the second encounter, Enyimba faced a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Katsina United, resulting in their elimination from the tournament. Katsina United displayed their prowess, with Ibrahim Yahaya finding the back of the net in the 54th minute. Two minutes later, Nafizi Yahaya doubled their advantage from the penalty spot. Despite Fatai Abdullahi’s late consolation goal for Enyimba, their campaign came to an end.

 

 

The evening was not just about the captivating football action. During halftime, fans were treated to a special performance by the legendary singer John Asiemo, popularly known as Daddy Showkey. With his energetic stage presence and nostalgic tunes, Daddy Showkey took the audience on a journey back to the vibrant sounds of the ’90s, adding an extra layer of entertainment to the event.

 

As the tournament progresses, Katsina United, Sporting Lagos, and Remo Stars find themselves level on four points each in Group A. Katsina United and Sporting Lagos now need just a single point from their upcoming game against Sporting Lagos to secure a spot in the highly anticipated semi-finals.
