Samsung has hinted at introducing a more efficient Galaxy AI in its much-anticipated foldables—the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6— expected to be launched in the year’s second quarter.

In what is expected to be a massive upgrade to the Galaxy S24 series, this new generation of foldables, according to Samsung, is poised to revolutionise mobile experiences “with a hybrid AI approach,” which it believes “is the most practical and reliable solution” to meet the needs of consumers.

The Galaxy 24 series which is Samsung’s first AI phone, using Gemini LLM’s AI capabilities, introduced a significant leap in generative AI features that set it apart from its competitors. Innovative functions like the circle to search, live translation, instant slow-motion, and generative wallpapers redefine the mobile experience on this pioneering model. However, Samsung says that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Won-joon Choi, Samsung EVP & Head of Mobile R&D Office, Mobile eXperience Business, wrote in a blog post on Thursday, June 7, “The introduction of Galaxy AI on the Galaxy S24 series was only the start. To deliver a completely new and unique AI experience, we will further optimize the Galaxy AI experience for the upcoming foldable devices.”

Choi emphasised that the synergy between Galaxy AI and Samsung’s foldable technology would usher in a new era of possibilities.

“Our foldables are the most versatile and flexible form factor in Samsung Galaxy and when combined with Galaxy AI, these two complementary technologies will together unlock all new possibilities,” he said.

He also revealed that Samsung’s Live Translate feature, which provides real-time translation of phone calls into different languages, will soon be accessible through third-party apps, not just the native phone app on compatible Galaxy devices.

According to reports from Korean publication The Chosun Daily, Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 on Wednesday, July 10, during its Unpacked event. In addition to these AI-equipped foldable smartphones, the company will also announce key details about its first smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, alongside other wearables in its pipeline.
