Doja Cat has dropped the music video for her latest single, “Jealous Type,” offering fans a glimpse into her new artistic direction. The track, a collaboration with producers Jack Antonoff and Y2K, is a sonic shift, moving away from the more rap-centric sound of her previous album, Scarlet, and embracing a vivacious, ’80s-inspired funk-pop aesthetic.

Directed by Boni Mata, the video is a masterful exercise in retro-futurism. It opens with Doja Cat watching a home movie of herself on a vintage projector, setting a nostalgic tone before a theme of duality unfolds. She confronts a second version of herself, and the two engage in a dynamic dance atop a limousine and its hood, symbolizing a confrontation with different sides of her persona. The fashion and visual effects are meticulously crafted to evoke the classic ’80s feel, perfectly complementing the song’s synth-heavy production.

“Jealous Type” serves as the lead single from her highly anticipated fifth studio album, Vie, which is slated for release on September 26.
