Adekunle Gold continues his strong start to the year with the visuals for his latest single, “Formation,” featuring his former boss, Olamide.
The collaboration marks the duo’s first official link-up, arriving a decade after Adekunle Gold’s departure from Olamide’s YBNL Records. The reunion feels symbolic of how far both artists have come. The record itself reflects Adekunle Gold’s ever-evolving sound, as he leans once again into Fuji sensibilities, pairing textured percussion with a fluid, genre-blending approach that Olamide meets with effortless ease.
Directed by Perliks, who has become a consistent presence behind the camera for Adekunle Gold’s recent visuals, the video opens with Adekunle at work in an automobile workshop, Adewale Ayuba’s eulogy of him on “Many People” playing softly beneath the scene before “Formation” fully takes over.
The setting is deliberately unglamorous, grounding the record’s themes of discipline and self-made identity in something tactile and real. Olamide’s entrance carries its own weight, with both artists sharing screen space with a natural chemistry that underscores their history.
