Adekunle Gold has doubled down on his declarative track “Don Corleone” with a surprise performance visualiser for the track, which serves as the second song off his sixth studio album, Fuji.
Directed by Ghanaian-American filmmaker Joshua Kissi, the visualiser adopts a one-scene, one-man, and one-attire approach, placing Adekunle Gold at the centre of a tightly controlled setting. Here, he fully leans into the “godfather” persona he lays claim to in the track, with the minimal setup sharpening the focus on his delivery and poise.
In many ways, the visualiser’s direction contrasts with the official video for the track, which leaned heavily into themes of royalty and cultural heritage and was shot at the historic King Kosoko Palace in Ereko, Lagos Island. The Perliks-directed video released last October featured HRH Abiola Kosoko and was driven by moments from the Fuji Street Carnival, with appearances from Fuji legends like Saheed Osupa, Taye Currency, Atawewe, and Obesere, alongside the likes of new generation Afrobeats stars such as Zlatan, Rybeena, Kid Carder, and Tml Vibez.
Where the official video was expansive and celebratory in scale, the newly released visualiser maintains a focused approach, centring on performance and character, while offering a different perspective to the same record.
