Virgin Music Group Expands Operations in Nigeria, Led by Olukorede ‘Kay’ Ikazoboh

Virgin Music Group, a corporation owned by Universal Music Group that provides services to labels and artists, has made an entry into Lagos, Nigeria.

They’ve struck key deals with Afrobeats label, Dvpper, and talented artists, Reekado Banks, Darkoo, and Ayra Starr. At the helm of Virgin Music Nigeria is Olukorede “Kay” Ikazoboh — a respected music executive renowned for championing independent labels and nurturing artists.

Michael Roe, Virgin Music International Managing Director, commended Kay’s reputation in Nigeria and praised her relationships, expertise, and understanding of the local music scene.

Kay is known throughout Nigeria as a champion of independent labels and artist development,” said Roe. “Her relationships, expertise and insight into the local market make her the perfect executive to lead our operations in this very important music market.

Before this, Kay Ikazoboh’s talent agency, Kimani Moore Entertainment, played a crucial role in shaping the careers of artists like Odunsi The Engine, Mowalola, and Tay Iwar. She previously held a variety of positions with Warner Music Group’s Emerging Markets.

Kay Ikazoboh shared her excitement at this new phase, saying, “Nigeria is now a major creative hub, producing some of the most exciting music globally. I’m thrilled to work with independent labels and artists, helping them grow their fan base locally and internationally. Leading this mission with my team is an incredible honor, and I can’t wait for the journey ahead.”

In 2021, Virgin Music Group expanded its presence in Africa by acquiring Electromode through Ingrooves. They also launched an African label services branch last year, featuring 15,000 titles, 50 label partners, and 100 performers from 25 African nations.

Virgin’s co-CEO, Nat Pastor, emphasized their commitment to supporting independent African artists and entrepreneurs across the region.
