Nigerian Cinema, led by Rixel Studios, is on the run to make global history with its upcoming feature film, Black Market, by attempting to break the official Guinness World Record for the largest attendance of a film screening in a single venue. The directorial debut of Fatimah Binta Gimsay will be released in Lagos, Nigeria, on September 26, 2026, at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).

Being the studio’s sophomore project since their 2025 debut, Red Circle, Rixel Studios will collaborate with Signet Ring and Filmone Studios to host 50,000 people for a single screening of Black Market at TBS on the 26th of September, 2026. The announcement was made yesterday, as the film intends to break the current record of 43,624 in audience numbers.

“We are excited to go on this journey as a team, and we have taken a lot of learnings from our previous film. As young filmmakers, one of our aims is to continue to creatively look for ways to innovate,” Team Lead Rixel Studios, Nora Awolowo, tells BellaNaija.

Produced by Nora Awolowo and Nicole Ofeogbu, the film follows five market women who run a tight, well-oiled smuggling operation across the Nigerian border amidst fuel scarcity. Chaos erupts when a rival kidnaps Adesua’s daughter and threatens to burn everything down. In that moment, the crew faces their most dangerous job yet: make one wrong move and lose more than the money or lose each other.

Written by Abdul Tijani-Ahmed and Fatimah Binta Gimsay, Black Market was shot in Abeokuta, Nigeria, and stars Lateef Adedimeji, Linda Ejiofor-Suleiman, Scarlet Gomez, Omowunmi Dada (Executive Producer), Teniola Aladese, Susan Pwajok, and Uzor Arukwe. Other actors include Folagade Banks, Tomiwa Tegbe, Andrew Yaw Bunting, Shamz Garuba, and Adeoluwa Akintoba.

Over the years, Nollywood and Nigerian cinema have continued to make giant strides and leave indelible marks in the global film industry. Come the 26th of September, the Nigerian cinema will make the largest simultaneous film audience ever assembled.
