The decision to delay the event came after Spaceship Management, Burna’s management company, expressed their dissatisfaction with the concert promoters, Ternary Media Group, citing their failure to fulfill crucial financial, production, and technical obligations to the team.
FNB Stadium confirmed the rescheduling of the concert, but left it to the event organizers to provide a specific date — they set it for December 16th, 2023.
However, conflicting reports have emerged, suggesting that low ticket sales may have also played a role in the postponement. In fact, a recent update on the TicketPro website suggests that the concert has now been canceled altogether.
It has been brought to light that suite tickets were being offered at discounted prices on various online platforms last week in an attempt to bolster stadium attendance and boost numbers for the Burna Boy show. Orlando Pirates even went so far as to promise free concert tickets to the first 250 individuals who purchased season tickets for Pirates home games.
The African Giant responded to claims of low ticket sales via his Instagram story yesterday.
This show would have marked Burna Boy’s return to South Africa after headlining the DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival last year. Over the past few years, Burna Boy has been known for his grueling tour schedule, headlining stadium shows and captivating audiences worldwide. A few months ago in June, he sold out the 60,000-capacity London Stadium in the UK.
