Despite all the worrisome concerns about the state of Afrobeats, the first half of 2026 has already delivered its fair share of memorable releases. Asake asserted dominance with the commercially successful and reflective album M$NEY. Omah Lay doubled down with his emotive, melancholic yet groove-laden artistry on Clarity of Mind, while BNXN and Sarz cement their relationship with their chest-thumping album The Game Needs Us.

Yet, despite these releases, there remains a lingering feeling that the year is only just beginning. As the calendar enters its final stretch, some of the industry’s biggest stars are preparing to unveil projects that will reshape conversations around Afrobeats for the rest of the year. Whether through reinvention, legacy building, or global ambition, these albums carry immense expectations.

Victony — Starlife

Few artists are entering this period with as much intrigue as Victony. Following the release of Stubborn and Very Stubborn, projects steeped in vulnerability, resilience, and introspection, Victony appears to be heading in an entirely different direction. Singles like “FRE$H” and especially the viral “SLICK” indicate a sonic pivot toward sleek pop textures, romance, and luxury.

After navigating the pressures of success, Starlife appears poised to capture the rewards of it. Perhaps the singer has finally accepted that fame has its pros and cons. And Starlife may be about giving in to the hedonism that comes with it.

But Victony’s evolving artistry has consistently produced some of Afrobeats’ most compelling melodies. And his upcoming album won’t be any less, except this time, he fully leans into the luxurious, refined sonic direction made for a global audience.

Ayra Starr — Starr Girl

Ayra Starr has undoubtedly attained one of the best careers of her generation since her breakout. After becoming one of Africa’s biggest global exports following The Year I Turned 21, expectations for Ayra Starr’s third album, Starr Girl, are enormous.

The Mavin star has described the project as deeply personal and inspired by her experiences, growth, womanhood, and confidence. She believes singles such as “Tornado” and “Where Do We Go” suggest a project that balances emotions with self-assurance while embracing multiple genres.

Despite her willingness to experiment sonically given her previous releases, there’s every possibility she’s circling back to Afrobeats, in a way that makes the project slightly unpredictable. However, it promises to document a crucial stage in her personal and artistic evolution. The album is also expected to feature previously released collaborations with Rema.

Fireboy DML — Zuko!

Fireboy‘s announcement of Zuko! came as a surprise, but perhaps that’s exactly what makes it exciting. For a while, the scene felt void of his poignant songwriting with addictive Afro-Pop-driven melodies. Now the singer makes a thrilling entry with the arrival of his fifth studio album.

Very little is known about the album, except for its title, which is a reference to the Avatar anime character Zuko, given to the singer as a slander name. But if anything, we’ve seen his ability to make captivating melodies while retaining his songwriting strengths. As we cling to the mystery surrounding the project, we await the fire Zuko! brings.

Davido — ORIADÉ

Fifteen years into his career, Davido has little left to prove. Global hits back-to-back, Grammy nods, a Coachella debut, among a plethora of achievements. Yet ORIADÉ feels like more than just another album.

The title combines the Yoruba words for “destiny” and “crown,” with Davido describing the project as a reflection of his journey, purpose, and gratitude. The regal imagery surrounding the rollout hints at a deeply personal and legacy-focused body of work.

The album’s lead single, “I Know Who I Be,” already sets the album’s narrative, where he leans into the self-assertiveness of his long-standing artistry. With 13 tracks, including a collaboration with Llona, the album is also said to span across Afro-RnB and Highlife and is scheduled to arrive by July 31st.

Wizkid — Sexy

At the moment, no album currently carries more mystery than Wizkid’s Sexy. Off the back of a euphoric pre-release listening party in Paris, the global star announced the album title without further details.

Following the emotional weight of Morayo, expectations are immense regarding where Wizkid chooses to go next. His 2025 feature run and joint project with Asake, Real Vol. 1, earlier this year, have seen him fully lean into Afrobeats.

But what should fans expect this time? Teasers like postcards with Pharrell Williams and a collaboration with Jorja Smith suggest another stylistic shift. And given his chameleonic history, Sexy could once again alter his sonic direction or find himself immersed in RnB sounds like Morayo. But from every indication from the title itself, we’re about to see a smoother, luxurious and sensual Big Wiz.

Seyi Vibez — SWAGGU

For a while, the Street-pop scene has been dominated by fast-rising artists. But in what appears to be a comeback after his foray into foreign pop textures with Fujimoto, Seyi Vibez seeks to assert his stance with the release of his upcoming album, SWAGGU.

In May, the street-pop icon announced his eighth studio album, signalling a new season. The hitmaker has been in stealth mode for months, barring his several online outbursts with colleagues. Yet a major highlight of SWAGUU is that Grammy-winning Burna Boy takes the executive-production credit.

While details are largely unknown, the collaboration between the two is expected to have a significant impact as the global star’s creative direction will influence Seyi Vibez’s signature street-pop sound.

Llona — On The Road

Following his 2024 critically acclaimed debut, Homeless—a deeply sombre project rooted in his personal trauma, Northern crisis, and emotional vulnerability—Llona is set to deliver its highly anticipated sequel, On The Road. Where Homeless focused on searching for a place to belong, the sophomore album documents a journey to finding it.

The concept for the album was forged directly on the pavement during his ambitious 25-city Homeless Nationwide Tour, which also inspired Davido’s Nationwide Tour. In a trailer featuring his two mothers offering him life lessons and blessings on the next phase of his journey, the album announcement suggests family and grounding will anchor this next chapter.
