For much of her career, Moet Abebe has nurtured a presence impossible to ignore in the Nigerian media and entertainment space. Since returning to Nigeria from the United Kingdom as a fledgling adult in 2012, she rose to prominence as a TV and radio personality at Soundcity, where she worked for a decade before exiting in 2021. After about four years off air, focusing on podcasting, acting and event hosting, Moet is making her return to live radio with Bounce 89.1FM, just as the station marks its first anniversary.
On October 1, 2025, Bounce 89.1FM celebrated its first anniversary. The “frequency for the big hits and sounds” has, over the past year, been the go-to for the best of music and culture, courtesy of its captivating shows, cross-cultural collaborations and a roster of delightful presenters and DJs keeping their voices and fingers firmly on the pulse of what matters. Moet Abebe is set to become the latest addition to the cultural movement at Bounce Radio, bringing her dynamic personality to the Saturday Afternoon Drive show from 1 to 6 pm.
“Obviously, there’s a format of how things go on every platform and show, but there’s still a place where the on-air personality comes into play. I think Bounce gives room for that personality, and that’s what I always wanted and why I’m here,” Moet says to BSide about her new chapter with Bounce 89.1FM. “I don’t necessarily think I’ll be doing anything specifically different because I’m still bringing my personality, my whole Radio Goddess persona, which isn’t new. But in a way, it will be more refined and more tactile — the growth and experience glaring,” she continues.
Over the years, Moet has operated with grace. Her voice — velvety, assured, and tinged with a distinct accent — paired with her natural confidence feeds into her enchanting allure. This earned her the moniker “The Radio Goddess” from her colleagues back in her Soundcity days. “I sort of created a niche for myself in the industry. That’s what I’m still doing, and I look forward to taking it to the next level with Bounce Radio,” she says. “Moving forward, it’s not even a matter of telling; it’s a matter of showing.”
The sheer thrill of doing this is what excites Moet the most about her return to radio. For a media personality, being heard, found relatable, and interesting enough to stir agreement or disagreement is one of the most fulfilling parts of the job. “You’re speaking to people you know are listening. Whether or not they agree with you is one thing, but the fact that you have the platform to do your thing and an audience that hears you is quite exciting to me,” she admits.
The demands of this new chapter aren’t lost on her, and she’s well prepared to tackle them head-on as well as leverage the opportunities that come with it. “One thing I appreciate about Bounce is the strong brand image. So here, I feel I can also improve my own personal brand whilst committing my quota to improving the company’s image.
“I know it’s not going to be easy; it has never been easy, even though I know I sometimes make it seem like it was. But you get to a point in life where you have to realise that you are enough, and that there’s no better version of you than yourself. That’s really it. You get to a point where you become self-aware, and once you do, and you love yourself regardless, you gain a kind of confidence that helps you take on challenges head-on.”
Over the past few months, Bounce 89.1FM has hosted some of the biggest cultural moments, rolling out the first play of some of the biggest tracks in African music like Nasty C’s “Soft” and hosting some of the biggest names in the industry, including Skyla Tylaa, Joeboy, Niniola, Falz, Vector, Iyanya and others across a variety of shows. For Moet, this isn’t unfamiliar territory, having also hosted superstars like Rick Ross, Olamide and 2Baba. This, she’s sure, can only grow stronger as she comes on board.
“I know that we’re definitely going to bring more of these big names closer to the audience through insightful sessions,” she says. “It’s really all about personality, and I’m certain my personality will shine.”
