Wizkid Extends “Most Awarded African Artist” Record as “Essence” Feat Tems Wins Top R&B/Hip-Hop & Rap Song of the Year at the 2023 ASCAP Awards

The global hit song, “Essence,” by Wizkid featuring Tems wins Top R&B/Hip-Hop & Rap Song of the Year at the 2023 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards. Legendury Beatz, the Nigerian record production and songwriting duo consisting of siblings, Uzezi Oniko and Okiemute Oniko, took R&B/hip-hip Song of the Year for co-writing “Essence.”

 

 

The ASCAP awards recognise the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed songs of the past year based on Luminate data for terrestrial and satellite radio and streaming services, as specified by the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards rules. The event was overseen by ASCAP president, Paul Williams, and Nicole George-Middleton, senior vice president of membership and executive director of The ASCAP Foundation. 

 

With an impressive collection of over 130 career accolades, including a Grammy award, Billboard awards, BET awards, MOBO awards, Soul Train awards, iHeart Radio awards, AFRIMA awards, Headies awards, and the current ASCAP award, Wizkid extends his record as the most awarded African artist.
