As members of Oscars’ Academy, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Kunle Afolayan, C.J Obasi, and Jade Osiberu will be eligible to vote in the 96th Oscars set to take place on March 10th, 2024.

Richard Mofe-Damijo, Kunle Afolayan, C.J Obasi, and Jade Osiberu Join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the renowned organisation responsible for the Oscars, has extended its membership to 398 new members, including four remarkable figures from Nigeria who have made significant contributions to Nollywood, leaving their imprint on the rich tapestry of the Nigerian film industry. These are: actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, filmmakers, Kunle Afolayan and C.J Obasi, and director and producer, Jade Osiberu

 

Academy CEO Bill Kramer confirmed this, stating, “The Academy is proud to welcome these artists and professionals into our membership. They represent extraordinary global talent across cinematic disciplines, and have made a vital impact on the arts and sciences of motion pictures and on movie fans worldwide.” Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity.

 

The invitation to join the Academy is not only a personal honor for these individuals but also a watershed for the Nigerian film industry as a whole. It signifies a momentous acknowledgement of Nollywood’s impact and the quest for greater diversity and inclusivity within the global film community.
