The Super Eagles of Nigeria have made significant strides in the latest FIFA rankings following their recent campaign in Ivory Coast. Despite their defeat in the AFCON 2023 final under the guidance of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, Nigeria’s impressive performance in Ivory Coast has propelled them up the rankings.

During their time in Ivory Coast, the Nigerian team showcased their strength by scoring eight goals and conceding only four, keeping clean sheets in four matches. While they fell short in the final, their display has not gone unnoticed, resulting in a notable climb of fourteen places in the FIFA rankings.

Nigeria now sits at the 28th position globally, marking their highest placement since their AFCON triumph in 2013. Additionally, they have earned the distinction of being the most improved African team in the rankings.

Morocco and Senegal lead the African contingent, occupying the 12th and 17th spots respectively, with Nigeria closely trailing behind in third place. Ivory Coast, the champions of AFCON 2023, have also seen a rise in their ranking, moving up ten places to claim the 39th position worldwide.

South Africa, who clinched the bronze medal in the tournament, have also made progress, advancing from 66th to 58th place in the rankings. Meanwhile, Qatar, the champions of the Asian Cup, have surged up twenty-one places to secure the 37th position.

In the top ten rankings, the standings remain unchanged, with the FIFA 2022 World Cup winners leading the pack, followed closely by France, the champions of the 2018 World Cup. England, Belgium, Brazil, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and Croatia complete the list of the top-ranked nations in the world.
