Bronny James has announced on Instagram that he will be entering the 2024 NBA Draft. The 18-year-old will also make use of the transfer site to maintain his college eligibility.

On December 10, against Long Beach State, the former four-star recruit made his college debut, less than five months after being admitted to the hospital following a cardiac attack during a summer practice at USC University

He went on to play in 25 games for the Trojans, averaging 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists while making six starts in the 2023–24 campaign.

He wrote, “I’ve had a year with some ups and downs but all added to growth for me as a man, student, and athlete.

“I’ve made the decision to enter the NBA Draft while maintaining my college eligibility, and will also be entering the NCAA transfer portal.

“Thank you to USC for an amazing freshman year, and as always thankful for my family, friends, doctors, athletic trainers, and fans for their support.”

The much-anticipated 2024 NBA Draft class has shed its veil of potential, revealing a decidedly underwhelming landscape. However, this lack of elite talent could prove to be a curious boon for a familiar name: LeBron‘s son, Bronny James.

Gone are the days of slam-dunk surefire picks. This year’s draft, labeled one of the weakest in a decade, presents a murkier picture for scouts and executives alike. This very murkiness, however, could create an unexpected opportunity for Bronny.

With a dearth of guaranteed stars, teams might be more inclined to take a flyer on a prospect with a high ceiling, a description that often fits the sons of legendary players. Bronny could find himself drafted higher than many initially anticipated due to the sheer lack of top-tier talent.

However, this strategy cuts both ways. While a team desperate for a franchise cornerstone might gamble on Bronny’s potential, they’ll also be taking on the risk of a player who might not be ready to contribute immediately.

The dance between James and the NBA has a new layer of intrigue. Both he and any potential drafting team will be navigating a draft landscape fraught with uncertainty.
