Olumide Oyedeji holds the distinction of being the first Nigerian player to be drafted into the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was selected as the 42nd overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics in the 2000 NBA Draft. Oyedeji played as a power forward and center during his career and represented Nigeria in international competitions.

Hakeem Olajuwon

 

Hakeem Olajuwon is widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Olajuwon was selected as the first overall pick by the Houston Rockets in the 1984 NBA Draft. He went on to have an illustrious NBA career, winning two NBA championships with the Rockets and earning numerous accolades, including NBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Michael Olowokandi

 

Michael Olowokandi, born in Lagos, Nigeria, was the first overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft. Festus Ezeli

 

Festus Ezeli, born in Benin City, Nigeria, was selected as the 30th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors in the 2012 NBA Draft.
