Grab your pen and calendars as you note down exciting movies available for your delight this July. From theatrical releases to streaming platform debuts and resurfacing, there is something for everybody. So start noting these exciting titles coming your way this month.

 

1MaXXXine

 


The synopsis reads, “
In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. However, as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Los Angeles, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.”.

 

Directed by Ti West, the horror film features Mia Goth, Lily Collins, Elizabeth Debicki, and Sophie Thacher. MaXXine will be released on 5 July in the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland.

 

2. Vanished Into the Night

 

The movie tells the story of a father, immersed in a difficult divorce process, who embarks on a dangerous mission when his children disappear from their isolated country house. Vanished Into the Night will be available at the cinemas on July 11.

 

3. Longlegs

 

The upcoming American feature film is written and directed by Osgood Perkins. It stars Maika Monroe, Nicolas Cage, Alicia Witt, Blair Underwood, and Kiernan Shipka.

 


The horror-thriller tells the story of a new FBI agent Lee Harker who was assigned to an unsolved case involving the Satanic serial killer known as Longlegs. As the investigation becomes more complicated with occult evidence uncovered, Harker realizes a personal link to the killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder.

Longlegs will be released on 12 July in the US, the UK, Canada and Ireland.

 

4. What About Us?

 

The film follows a Christian couple’s struggle to keep their marriage afloat. But when a new couple move in next door, the problems that have plagued their marriage come to a fever pitch, as the wife begins a relationship to close for comfort with the husband next door.

 

The all-star cast includes Uzor Arukwe, Folu Storms, Kunle Remi, Teniola Aladese, Aeyi Awolowo, Marycolette Unamka and Atlanta Bridget Johnson.

 

What About Us? Is executively produced by popular Nigerian cleric, Pastor Emmanuel Iren, directed by Kayode Kasum and produced by Bisola Badejo and Tochukwu Macdonald Sunday. The feature will debut across cinemas nationwide on July 12.

5. Fly Me to the Moon

 

The upcoming American romantic comedy-drama is directed by Greg Berlanti from a screenplay by Rose Gilroy. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Nick Dillenburg, Anna Garcia, Jim Rash, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Christian Zuber, Donald Elise Watkins, Ray Romano, and Woody Harrelson. Its plot follows the relationship between a marketing specialist and a NASA director during the 1960s Space Race.

 


Fly Me to the Moon
is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States and Canada by Columbia Pictures through Sony Pictures Releasing on July 12, 2024, before streaming on Apple TV+ at a later date.

 

6. Twisters


Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones star as the mismatched storm-chasers who research tornadoes by driving dangerously close to them. But climate change has made these whirlwinds bigger and more destructive than the ones which blasted Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton in 1996. 

 


Twisters
will be released internationally from 17 July.

 

7Dead Pool & Wolverine

 

The long-awaited team-up of two beloved Marvel characters: Ryan Reynolds is back as the wisecracking Deadpool, and Hugh Jackman bulked up again to play Wolverine.

 

Six years after the events of Deadpool 2 (2018), Wade Wilson lives a quiet life, having left his time as the mercenary Deadpool behind him, until the Time Variance Authority (TVA)—a bureaucratic organization that exists outside of time and space and monitors the timeline—pulls him into a new mission. With his home universe facing an existential threat, Wilson reluctantly joins an even more reluctant Wolverine on a mission that will change the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

 

The American action feature will premiere at the cinemas on July 26.

8. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

 

Eddie Murphy is back for the fourth Beverly Hills Cop film after four decades since the very first one. He’ll be playing Axel Foley, a motor-mouthed Detroit detective who outsmarts colleagues and criminals alike in Los Angeles’s swankiest neighbourhood. Several members of the original cast are back with him, including Judge Reinhold and Paul Reiser, and they’re joined by Taylor Paige as Axel’s estranged daughter, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as his new partner.

The action packed comedy will debut globally on July 3 on Netflix.

 

9. Space Cadet

 

A Florida party girl played by Emma Roberts turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates who may have better resumes, but don’t have her smarts, heart and moxie.

Other cast members include Poppy Liu (Hacks) as Emma Roberts’ best friend and Gabrielle Union (The Inspection) and Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as members of NASA. Space Cadet will commence streaming on Prime Video on July 4.

 

10. Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black

 

Meagan Good stars as a banker who is abandoned by her husband Ava’s husband, Dallas, leaves her heartbroken as he deserts their marriage. Initially, she tries to save the marriage but discovers dark secrets her ex-partner has kept from her and eventually tries to find true love with her destined soulmate.

 

This drama is part of a four-picture deal between Tyler Perry & Prime Video, it is slated to commence streaming on July 11.

 

 

12. House of Ga’a


Produced by Bolanle Austen-Peters the movie emerges as a deeply Indigenous narrative, which centers  on the life of Bashorun Gaa, the influential Prime Minister of the Old Oyo Empire during the 17th and 18th centuries. Feared and respected, Gaa wielded significant power, impacting the appointment and dismissal of several Alaafins despite his non-royal lineage, until his eventual demise.

The cast features a blend of seasoned and emerging talents from Nigeria’s film industry, including Femi Branch, Mike Afolarin, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Ibrahim Chatta, Dele Odule, Bimbo Manuel, Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Adebayo, Gabriel Afolayan, Jide ‘JBlaze’ Oyegbile, Seun Akindele, Yemi Blaq, Adeniyi Johnson, Muyiwa Ademola, Teddy A, Stan Nze, Bukunmi Oluwasina, Willam Benson, Gbenga Titiloye, and Kunle Coker.

 

House of Ga’a was recently acquired by Netflix and will commence streaming on July 26.
