The ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) will be held in Lagos, Nigeria on May 20th.

The ninth edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) will be held in Lagos, Nigeria on May 20th, and the judging panel will be led by film director, producer and writer, Femi Odugbemi. In preparation for this, the nominations list was released last night, Sunday, April 16th, 2023.
Kunle Afolayan’s Netflix Original, Anikulapo, bagged the most nominations from sixteen categories, including Best Overall Movie and Best Yoruba Movie with Jade Osiberu’s Brotherhood and Chinenye Nworah’s Shanty Town following with eleven nominations. Bimbo Ademoye got nominated for Best Actress, Sola Sobowale for Best Supporting Actress, Taiwo Hassan and Yinka Quadri for Best Supporting Actor.
Some AMVCA categories are open for the public to vote for their preferred nominees, but others will be decided by the organizer’s panel of judges. Check out the full list of the nominees here.
