Afro Nation Detroit took over the city this past weekend, solidifying its place as a major force in the global Afrobeats movement. Held on August 17-18, 2024, the festival drew thousands of fans who packed in to witness impressive performances from some of the genre’s biggest stars such as Ayra Starr, Rema, Kizz Daniel, Adekunle Gold, and Asake.

 

Ayra Starr delivered a standout performance, offering hits like “Bloody Samaritan” and more from her new album The Year I Turned 21. Her energy was contagious, setting the tone for a weekend that celebrated Afrobeats at its finest.

Adekunle Gold and Kizz Daniel brought their A-game, delivering sets that demonstrated their hit-making prowess. Rema, fresh from the release of his sophomore album
HEIS, kept the momentum going with a performance that balanced his signature style with new material, proving why he’s one of the genre’s brightest stars.

Asake, riding the wave of his third album
Lungu Boy, brought the crowd to its feet with a string of chart-topping hits, solidifying his place as one of the most exciting voices in Afrobeats today.

The festival didn’t stop at Afrobeats. Jamaican star Shenseea brought a dose of dancehall to the mix, while Detroit’s own Kashdoll represented for the home team. Grammy-winning legend Lil Wayne stole the show on the second night reminding everyone of his enduring influence and bridging the gap between hip-hop and Afrobeats in a way that only he could.
