Spotify has announced Dunnie, talented Nigerian artist, as its EQUAL Africa ambassador for November. This highlights Spotify’s commitment to diversity in music.

Spotify’s head of music for sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, stated, “We are delighted to have Dunnie as our EQUAL Africa ambassador for November. She embodies the spirit of diversity and creativity that we aim to champion with this initiative. Dunnie’s music has touched the hearts of many, and we believe that her story and her voice will inspire others within and beyond the African music community.”

Dunnie, born Dunni Alexandra Lawal, is singer, songwriter, and renowned producer known for her soulful music. She first gained recognition as a finalist on the popular music show “Star The Winner Is” in 2014. Since then, Dunnie has consistently impressed by working with both international and local award-winning artists like Burna Boy, Yemi Alade, and more. She produced two songs, “Nobody Holy” and “Dues,” for Wande Coal’s latest album, Legend or No Legend.

Her hit songs, “Overdose” and “Already Won,” helped her gather more fans and she’s even been nominated for the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in 2021 for her outstanding feature in “Love Song” by Busiswa. Dunnie’s enthusiasm for the opportunity is evident as she aims to inspire more women in the music industry as part of the EQUAL program.

She confirms, “My experience working in a male dominated industry has been a learning curve, and although challenging, it’s been a blessing being part of the people breaking barriers in an uncharted territory. I am immensely honoured and grateful to be part of the EQUAL program, and I hope to inspire more women to know that they too can do whatever they put their mind to.

Spotify is determined to support diversity, equality, and inclusion in the music world. Their collaboration with Dunnie as the EQUAL Africa ambassador demonstrates their strong commitment to this goal.
