Films to see this valentine's

Valentine’s day is less than 24 hours away, and who says it has to be spent with a partner? It can be spent with family. If you are looking for Nollywood films without explicit content that you can see with your family this period, here’s a list.

Maami (2011)

Maami  is a film about a poor single mother (played by Funke Akindele) and her son. She teaches him everything about life, until he starts asking questions about who his father is. This is a good watch and I think it is excellent for family bonding. Although it is not a comedy, it catches your attention with the mother-child relationship shown on screen. This is no surprise, as it was directed by Tunde Kelani, who is known to be at the top of his game.

Chief Daddy (2018)

Chief Daddy is a film you should see if you are not looking for a good story, but just want to have a good laugh and see some of your favorite actors on screen. It has an ensemble cast of Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Nkem Owoh, Joke Silva, Patience Ozokwor, Richard Mofe Damijo and Rachael Oniga. The film opens with a billionaire dying, and we follow the drama that ensues among his family members because of the man’s will.

Wura

If you have seen Showmax’s South African telenovela series The River on and you like it, then chances are that you would like Wura. The series is about titular character Wura, and how she exploits other people in order to build her diamond empire. However, she is the “perfect” person to her family. In other words, she lives a double life. This is a family show, and it is Showmax’s first Nigerian telenovela. This is not a film, but you can begin binge-watching the series this period.

Moms At War (2018)

Like the name of the film implies, it revolves around two moms (Michelle Dede and Funke Akindele) who dislike each other and constantly have disagreements. This is a comedy that you and your family would surely have a good time with. When the two women’s children compete with each other in the same school, their dispute escalates. This is definitely a good film to watch with family this valentines. And if you have seen it before, watching it again would be refreshingly fun.

Introducing The Kujus (2020)

Another comedy film, Introducing The Kujus revolves around Mausi Kuju (Bisola Aiyeola) and Maugbe Kuju (Timini Egbuson) and how they try to re-unite their family for their mother’s remembrance. Be sure to enjoy this, because Bisola never fails to give an amusing performance when it is required of her. It stars other actors such as Bimbo Ademoye, Sophie Alakija and Mimi Onalaja.

Battle On Buka Street (2022)

Battle On Buka Street  follows the story of a polygamous family and how they fight one another. Two step sisters compete to be the number one food vendor on Buka street. Popular Nollywood actors such as Funke Akindele, Mercy Johnson, Sola Sobowale, Tina Mba, and Femi Jacobs star and give very entertaining performances that the entire family would enjoy.

Brotherhood (2022)

Brotherhood  follows the story of two brothers, Wale (Falz) and Akin (Tobi Bakre) Adetula, who find themselves on opposite sides of the law. Akin joins a gang and Wale who is part of the police force tries to catch him. This action-filled blockbuster film is a must-watch. If you were unable to see it in the cinemas last year, don’t miss your chance to catch up on it on Amazon Prime this February with your loved ones.
