As we wrap up 2023, Asake reigns officially as the most streamed artist in Nigeria on Spotify this year. According to the data published by Spotify, Asake beat out other stars like Burna Boy and Davido who are on the second and third spot respectively.

Seyi Vibez finished the year fourth on the chart, followed by Omah Lay in fifth, BNXN in sixth, Rema in seventh, ODUMODUBLVCK in eighth, Olamide in ninth, and Wizkid in tenth place.

Asake’s victory extends beyond the rankings, with three of his tracks earning coveted spots in the top 10 most-streamed songs on Spotify in Nigeria. “Lonely At The Top” earned its place at the very top, “2:30” finished fourth and “Amapiano,” with Olamide, finished 10th. He was also the most streamed artist in Ghana and Togo.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music in Sub-Saharan Africa, summed it up nicely, calling this year’s Spotify Wrapped a nod to how music connects us to the culture and traditions of Nigeria. “Nigeria is a hotbed of musical talent and we’re incredibly proud to showcase the diversity and passion of Nigerian music lovers through Wrapped,” she explained.

Ayra Starr maintained her status as the top-streamed female artist in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, holding onto her position from the previous year.

It’s noteworthy that within the same year, Rema’s remix of “Calm Down” featuring Selena Gomez became the first African-led single to amass a billion streams on Spotify. The song is also the first by a Nigerian Afrobeats artist to feature on the top 10 chart of most streamed recordings globally on Spotify, finishing in eighth position.
