In a final bid to qualify for the Diamond League season-ending final, four Nigerian athletes, headlined by world record holder Tobi Amusan, will compete at the 12th leg of the 2025 Diamond League in Silesia, Poland, on Saturday, August 16.

Nigeria’s highly rated hurdler Tobi Amusan will be in contention in the women’s 100m hurdles in Silesia in what would mark her sixth Diamond League appearance this season and a possible record-extending fourth Diamond Trophy. Amusan is coming off winning her fifth national title in Lagos on August 4. Earlier in the season, she clocked a season’s best of 12.24s in Paris and finished second with 12.38s in Oregon in July.

In the Diamond League points table, Amusan, the current world number 10, sits second for her event with 17 points. She trails leader Grace Stark of the United States, who has 35 points. Racing against Amusan this weekend are top athletes, including world number 3 Masai Russell of the US, world number 4 Ackera Nugent of Jamaica, and 2023 world champion Danielle Williams of Jamaica. A strong outing this weekend could potentially set Amusan up for the Diamond League final in Zurich.

Additionally, Favour Ofili will be in action in Poland for her first appearance in this year’s Diamond League women’s 200m. Currently unranked in the 200m, Ofili’s bid to break into the standings will face stiff competition from world number 1 Brittany Brown of the US, world number 5 Daryll Neita of Britain, and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson, the second-fastest woman in history over the distance.

Ofili is riding on momentum following her commendable outing in the Hungarian Meet in Budapest on Tuesday. The 22-year-old clocked a season’s best of 22.31s but fell short of the top spot to Jamaica’s Ashanti Moore, who also clocked the same time but won by the slimmest of margins after the photo finish review.

Similarly, Nigerian star and Africa’s shot put record holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, who had a good outing at the Hungarian meeting, will also be in a qualification bid for Zurich at the Diamond League this weekend. Currently sitting sixth in the standings with nine points, the 31-year-old will take on Italy’s Leonardo Fabbri (world number 2) and the US’s Joe Kovacs (world number 3) in a clash of heavyweights.

Twenty-two-year-old 400m hurdler Ezekiel Nathaniel completes the list of Nigerian athletes in Poland this weekend. Ezekiel made his Diamond League debut by finishing third with 47.88s in Oregon, earning six points that place him 15th in the standings. This weekend, he will be up against Norway’s Karsten Warholm, the world record holder and Olympic champion, Qatar’s Abderrahman Samba, and Jamaica’s Roshawn Clarke.
