From Rotterdam Streets to Ajax Dreams

Jaynilson’s journey began on the streets of Rotterdam, kicking a ball with his brother and his friends from the tender age of three. “It was love at first sight,” he tells BOUNCE in an exclusive interview. By five, football was his constant companion.

His talent was undeniable, leading him to Ajax’s youth setup. However, the transition wasn’t without its hurdles. “It’s a new environment, so you need time to adjust to everything,” Jaynilson explains. “From the system to the lifestyle, the high level of football, switching schools, the people you deal with…”

Despite the challenges, Jaynilson persevered. He credits his resilience to his supportive family, particularly his mother who ensured he stayed connected to his Nigerian and South Sudanese roots, even while residing in the Netherlands. “My mother always made sure that we learned a bit of our culture,” he says. He speaks some Nigerian language but aspires to fluency, while acknowledging his limited knowledge of South Sudanese. A trip to explore his heritage is high on his agenda.

A New Beginning at Ado Den Hag

While Ajax might not have been the end destination, Jaynilson ‘s determination paid off when Ado Den Hag came calling. “I was a whole year without a club after a couple of failed trials,” he reveals. “They were the first team that still had trust in my abilities.”

Ado Den Hag represents a fresh start, and Jaynilson is embracing the opportunity. “It’s going smooth so far,” he says, appreciating the club’s proximity to his home. His ambition is clear: to debut for the Nigerian national team this year.

Dreams of the Super Eagles and Ballon d’Or

Drawing inspiration from the legendary Jay-Jay Okocha, Jaynilson dreams big. “I would like to win a Ballon d’Or, Champions League and many more trophies one day,” he declares. He enjoys a variety of music, with a particular fondness for Nigerian artists like P-Square and Burna Boy, but rap holds a special place in his heart.
