The man known by many as “Nigerian Nightmare,” Favor Ashe, made a triumphant comeback with his lightning-fast legs, setting a new record and becoming the first sub-10s runner to earn a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

At the Florida Relays, the former Nigerian champion returned to winning ways with a spectacular time of 9.99s (0.7) to win the men’s college 100m event. Jamarion Stubbs finished second in 10.18s, while Jamal Miller finished third in 10.19s.

Considering that it was Ashe’s first outdoor race of the season and his first competition in more than a month after suffering a setback at the end of the indoor season, his striking performance was quite impressive.

What’s more interesting is that the (21) beat the Olympic qualification criteria of 10.00s and came within just 0.03s of his lifetime best of 9.96s.

The Auburn University sophomore student-athlete has more in his legs after his season-opening effort at the Florida Relays, and he will only become faster as the season goes on.
