A little over a month before its originally planned May 20 release, Dune: Awakening has been delayed by three weeks and will now launch on June 10. The game’s publisher, Funcom, announced on Tuesday that feedback from beta testers indicated the game needed “more time to cook.”
The gaming community has been looking forward to Dune: Awakening, the first major video game based on the Dune franchise’s rich literary and cinematic history, ever since it was revealed at Gamescom in August 2022. The excitement grew in February 2025 when a new trailer set the release date for May 20. That date has now been moved to June 10, with pre-orders access set to be unlocked five days earlier on June 5.
In a social media statement, Funcom said,“Dune: Awakening is a beast of a game. This is multiplayer survival on a massive scale, and we’re making gameplay and technical strides not seen in the genre before. We want to make sure we stick to the landing.”
The delay reflects Funcom’s commitment to prioritising player experience. The studio intends to use the additional development time to respond to feedback from ongoing closed beta testing.
“We have a very active Discord with our beta testers, where our developers interact directly with the community to collaboratively make Dune: Awakening a better game,” Funcom added.
“Thanks to this process, we’ve concluded that with a bit more time, we can act on a lot more of the feedback our beta testers have shared.”
As a consolation for the delay, Funcom has teased a “large-scale beta weekend” sometime in May, allowing more players to experience the game ahead of its hopeful final release on June 10. Details for this beta event will be announced soon.
