Adekunle Gold returns with “Coco Money,” a swaggering single that marks a tonal shift from his recent ballad, “Obimo.” Built on a sun-drenched Afro-fusion beat by Niphkeys and Seyifunmi, the track finds AG Baby in celebration mode, pairing confident lyrics with a sample flip of Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money.”
The visual, directed by Perliks and Edgar Esteves, arrives in black and white placing Adekunle’s style and charisma front and center. The video deepens its defiant tone and reasserts Gold’s place as one of Afropop’s most magnetic figures.
“Coco Money” also breaks sonic ground with its use of the Elegbe riff, a traditional call-and-response motif from Fuji music, reimagined here with cinematic strings and electronic textures. The result is a genre-bending track that feels both rooted and forward-looking.
The release coincides with Adekunle Gold’s new philanthropic venture, the Adekunle Gold Foundation, which just launched a healthcare initiative offering free insurance to 1,000 Nigerians living with sickle cell a cause close to the artist’s heart.
