Ghanaian singer Gyakie has released the official trailer for her debut album After Midnight, which is set for release on August 29. The visual gives fans a preview of the themes and emotions behind the project, which she describes as her most personal work to date.

The trailer, directed by Alex Piper, a filmmaker whose portfolio includes work with Rema, Playboi Carti and Travis Scott, reveals a first look at the record’s themes and imagery, presenting Gyakie as an artist moving into a new phase of her career.

Daughter of Ghanaian highlife legend Nana Acheampong, Gyakie says the album represents a new chapter independent of her father’s legacy. The album’s title draws from the hours it was created, with nearly every song written and recorded after midnight. “Almost all the songs on the album were recorded after midnight,” Gyakie shared in a statement. “It is within those hours that I find my best inspiration to write. The peace and quiet, the sounds from the birds, the serenity, everything about that time fuels my creativity.”

The album’s title is a literal reference to its making, but also to the moods of the night itself. Gyakie describes the record as spanning reflection, spirituality and emotional release, anchored in a family tradition of her mother praying for her and her siblings after midnight. Within that space, she explores love in its many forms while also embracing the celebratory energy that arrives when night turns into morning.

After Midnight will be Gyakie’s first full-length release following earlier EPs that established her as one of Ghana’s most prominent new voices.
