The evening was a tremendously fun one. The ambiance was a sensory delight, featuring a Spotify mini mart, a waf. skatepark, great drinks from Quacktails, a water station inspired by Nigeria’s most streamed playlist on Spotify: Hot Hits Naija.

Dope Caeser and DJ Consequence spun thumping sets that had the crowd moving and grooving. Nigerian artists, YKB, Qing Madi, Young Jonn, Adekunle Gold alongside Ghanaian songbird Gyakie, made appearances, much to the excitement of the crowd.

The energy in the hall reached a fever pitch when Davido came on stage, reminding everyone why he’s a megastar. He performed songs from his latest album, Timeless, the most streamed album in Nigeria on Spotify. New DMW signees, Logos Olori and Morravey, also performed alongside him.

The event was a celebration of Spotify Wrapped, the platform’s annual thorough look into the music and podcasts that defined the year for users. “Wrapped is our biggest global campaign every year, and we are thrilled to bring it to life for all the fans in Lagos, Nigeria. This is our way of saying thank you for the massive year that Nigerian music has had on the platform, driven majorly by the fans,” says Sithabile Kachisa, Spotify’s Marketing Lead, Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

One of the biggest take-outs from this year’s stats from Spotify is that Nigerians listened to more local songs than the previous year. Local music consumption grew by an impressive 284% with Asake being the most streamed Nigerian male artist, Ayra Starr, the most streamed female artist in Nigeria and Davido’s Timeless, the most streamed album on the platform in Nigeria.

Overall, the Spotify Wrapped event was a blast from start to finish (per usual!). It was a celebration of music, Nigerian talent, and community. If you missed it, don’t worry – there’s always next year. In the meantime, keep streaming your favourite tunes and be ready to party with Spotify again soon.
