A Recap of the 72nd NBA All-Star Game

A record-breaking performance and a streak-breaking outcome occurred during the 72nd NBA All-Star Game.

LeBron James’ squad lost for the first time since the NBA shifted to the All-Star Draft format back in 2018. In a thrilling shootout, Team Giannis defeated Team LeBron, 184–175 in score.

Giannis Antetokounmpo was rewarded for selecting Jayson Tatum in the draft that took place just before the game began when he put on a display and won MVP with an All-Star Game record 55 points.

Due to Tatum and Donovan Mitchell, there was little drama when the final buzzer sounded as the teams played to the desired score of 182 points (40 points). Damian Lillard, who finished the game with the game-winning three-pointer, also stood out with 26 points.

Over a day of highlights, Tatum attracted a lot of reactions: The loss of both captains was the only drawback to Sunday’s events. LeBron James missed the second half due to an apparent hand injury he apparently sustained by banging his hand on the hoop, and Antetokounmpo checked himself out after a dunk early in the game due to a preexisting wrist ailment.

Tatum and James both threw passes to themselves off the backboard for dunks, Ja Morant dazzled the crowd with his dunks and alley-oops all over the floor, and Lillard drilled a triple from beyond half court as he, Tatum, and Mitchell caught fire in the third quarter. There was still no shortage of highlights. In line with other All-Star Games, defense was also an optional skill.

The most exciting portion of the evening occurred in the third quarter when a one-on-one battle between Boston Celtics teammates Jaylen Brown and Tatum broke out, even if there wasn’t much drama surrounding which team would ultimately prevail.

Brown produced some highlights, but Tatum ultimately triumphed with the victory and MVP.
